You Got This! It’s something we say at Wave Productivity all the time.
Productivity Coaching requires that you get out of your comfort zone and try something new. Creating new habits means your going to falter a bit before it becomes rote. Habit forming is humbling, so is stepping out of your comfort zone.
Many years ago, I had a surf instructor, Tony, who used to say to me. ‘This is your wave, catch it. You Got This.” He didn’t say ‘try to catch the wave’ or ‘there’s a wave coming, hope you make it’. He believed in me before I even began to paddle. There were waves where I faltered and wiped out. Still, he’d say ‘you got this.’ He coaxed me into the waters at Bondi Beach and taught me ways to be a better surfer.
One particular morning, the waves were big. Standing on the beach looking out I was visibly nervous. The biggest I had encountered, about 6 feet were pounding the beach. You have to paddle beyond the breaking waves to get to waves that aren’t crashing down on you. It takes a lot of energy, a lot of paddling. Getting out past the break was grueling. Tony looked me in the eye and said ‘You Got This’. His confidence in me allowed me to catch some big ones.
When times at work are daunting, who is the person who believes in you? When you need to make a change, who is your cheerleader? What do they say? Part of coaching my clients is defining who those people are, knowing what changes need to be made and knowing what motivates you to keep moving forward. It’s in my work as a coach to champion my clients to a place where they too are confident that they got it. It’s going to be better than ok, it’s going to be great. They are moving forward and making powerful changes in the way they work.
For all of you out there, here’s my vote of confidence. You Got This!
