Holiday Advice For Gadget Givers

Holiday Advice For Gadget Givers

Everyone has a hopelessly disorganized special someone on their holiday gift list who seems like the perfect candidate for the season’s must-have personal organizing gadget.

But as you get in line to snap up that new iPhone, Android or laptop, you should ask yourself, “Is it reasonable to think that my gift alone will help my loved one get a handle on their life?”

The fact is the latest tech device is no silver bullet.  When a disorganized person receives an electronic gizmo the outcome is almost always greater frustration.  Their days are already packed with things to do, and now you are burdening them with another complex device to learn how to use and maintain.  It’s a lot like buying a piano assuming the recipient has musical ability.

Gadget-based solutions only work when a person has already developed the skills and habits necessary to lead a balanced, ordered, and uncluttered life.

So this year, do yourself and your loved one a favor.  Along with your gift, give them some heart-to-heart advice:  Encourage, cajole, demand, that your special someone seek expert coaching about how to develop positive habits and a more structured, less chaotic daily life.
