While living in Arizona, I had the privilege to be the chair for the Tempe Chamber of Commerce Women In Business Council. There are several events that the Women In Business Council holds each year-A Speaker Series in January and a Leadership Conference in May. Both had speakers who shared their knowledge, here is what they imparted:
Karen Jacobson stressed the importance of creating routines and said that instead of prioritizing your schedule you need to schedule your priorities. She also spoke highly of the pomodoro method. Not sure of what that is? Here’s a blog describing the method
Olenka Cullinan was very popular with the attendees. Her words of advice were to say ‘Thank You’ instead of ‘I’m sorry.’ Apologies for being late turn into ‘Thank you for waiting patiently for me.’ It puts the spotlight on the other person. She also mentioned that we wear ‘busy as a badge of honor’. If you own that badge you need to turn it in and look to ways to becoming more productive.
Deborah Dupree spoke about Strategic Leadership and how to inspire others. She touched on how fear gets in our way. She said ‘You can’t have courage without fear.’ It was encouraged that we press on as business professionals in the community.
Cause marketing was introduced by Mindy Weinstein. Her talk put a spotlight on the non-profit organizations we work with. Often, we don’t discuss the good works we do in the community. She encouraged attendees to share the causes we hold close to heart with others. Wave Productivity has an initiative called Waves of Kindness.
This year speakers include Jodi Low of U & Improved, Joan Jakel speaking on empowerment, and back for a second time, Olenka Cullinan. The 2020 Leadership Speaker Series is designed to give you real-world perspectives from experienced public and private sector leaders. Powerful expert speakers will inspire, educate and motivate participants to grow and succeed in their professional careers.
The series takes place on four consecutive Fridays at 8:00 am: January 24, January 31, February 7 and February 14. Register here.
