Resolutions You Can Keep

Goal Setting In The New Year

In our last blog we identified actions to take for goal setting: Identify priorities, plan achievements and using positive self-talk. For our second installment of creating resolutions and setting goals, here are three more tips to take to accomplish your goals.

Enroll Others

Clement Stone said it well—“Tell everyone what you want to do and someone will want to help you do it.” Get people enrolled in what you’re doing. Find a friend who has similar goals and make a pact to help each other. When things get tough, you can help each other get back on track. Telling friends and family about your goals also helps to solidify your commitment and compels you to keep it, especially when they ask you how you’re doing with whatever it is you are trying to accomplish!

Don’t give up

On those days that you’re tempted to give up out of frustration, acknowledge and list all the steps you’ve taken to get to your goal. When you take the time to identify all you have already done to get to where you are on the road to achieving your goal, you will be much less likely to quit. Reflect on the positive feelings associated with accomplishing the small steps leading to your goal; this will inspire you to keep on working.

Invest in support

If you need help, reach out to find the support that you need. If you really want to get fit this time around, consider hiring a personal trainer. If you truly want to get your personal or business life in order hire a professional organizer. Acknowledging that you can’t always accomplish every detail on your own is often one of the most critical steps to finally achieving your goals, once and for all.
